Tickets

The ticket in the health system is the part of the cost of the service borne by the citizen. All citizens, except exempt ones, must pay the ordinary ticket.

In this guide you will find everything you need to know for the payment of the services you use: ordinary tickets, exemptions, blank prescriptions and online payments.

Information and services

All citizens, with the exception of the exempt, must pay for instrumental, laboratory and specialist diagnostic services up to a maximum amount of € 38.00 per prescription. Each order may contain a maximum of eight prescriptions of the same specialist branch.

Read which categories are exempt.

2

Paying the ticket

Payment, as a rule, is made before the service. The receipt must be presented at the time of the visit.

The ticket is paid at the hospital:

  • to the administrative “Reception” desks located on the ground floor of both Hospitals
  • cash, cheque, debit card, or Credit Card (excluding American Express).

Tickets can also be paid on-line:

  • IRIS – Tuscany Regional System ((to pay for the ticket for visits and specialist examinations))
This system allows you to pay for health services for the Healthcare Authorities of the Tuscany Region. It is therefore possible to use this platform to pay for the health services provided by the Fondazione Toscana Gabriele Monasterio.
Currently you can pay online for tickets for visits and specialist exams booked through the Unified Booking Centre and for Emergency tickets.

Exemptions

The Ministerial Decree of 11 December 2009 provides that from 1 December 2011 the condition of exemption for income can no longer be self-certified by signature of the prescription by the citizen, but attested by a certificate of exemption naming the individual issued by the relevant local health authority.

The patient must report the possession of the exemption to the Physician who prescribes the service, and show them the exemption certificate. The prescribing physician, when filling out the prescription/referral, affixes the exemption code present on the patient’s certificate to the prescription.

White prescriptions

Access to specialist outpatient, instrumental diagnostic and laboratory services outside the National Healthcare Service:

The Fondazione Toscana Gabriele Monasterio has decided (pdf) to create a specific tariff for specialist outpatient, instrumental and laboratory diagnostic services, made on the basis of “white prescriptions” or, in any case, outside the Tuscan Regional Health Service.
